Adding colour formatting to fields in InfoPath makes your forms easier to process and fill out for your end users.
Formatting is particularly useful if you use the same design principles across all of the forms in your organisation. If all compulsory fields are formatted with a background colour of Red, for example, you establish a design convention that will be immediately understood by your users.
